Day II.

Rainy day program

The weather forecast announces changeable weather with occasional rain. Therefore, we go on a trip to the Grabovača Cave Park. We walk to the cave itself along an educational path and learn about the flora and fauna around us. We climb to the lookout point where a beautiful view of a hundred shades of Lika green and one surprise awaits us: a forest organ. A nice guide leads us through the cave, and we admire the natural sculptures that nature has been doing here for thousands of years.

In Gospić we also visit the re-erected monument to Nikola Tesla, a magnificent work by the sculptor Fran Kršinić. We are leaving the Nikola Tesla Memorial Center in Smiljan for next year, although Nicole surprises us with her knowledge of Tesla and her statement that she is proud to be called one of the greatest geniuses of all time.

We have lunch in the excellent restaurant Maki in Gospić, which also offers Lika buša specialties  ( bush is a breed of cow ) to have a digestive with Kate and Pava Pavelić who make top quality quinces from quince, apple, pear ... Pave tells us about tepka, a pear that every family had to plant for health (!!) by order of Maria Theresa. We confirm first hand that pear tepka is a medicine !!
